Our grandfather Floyd Oscar Craig was the first Baby baptised in the Drain Methodist Church May 18,1890.
Our Grandpa was an extremely kind and gentle person who loved all of his family completely,he always saw the good in everyone.
One time he was asked to serve jury duty, and after being placed on the panel realized he had seen the incident that the trial was concerning and quickly told the attorney that he could not serve, but could be a witness for the prosecution.
Dale Preston Craig was his first grandchild and as a boy could do no wrong in his grandad's eyes. Our family held a family reunion on each Memorial day, first cleaning the cemetery and then meeting at one of the family homes where there would be good food, great fun and best of all ice cream.
Dale was just three when he got in trouble at a reunion and our mother disciplined him with a switch on his legs.
He went running to Grandpa and a few minutes later he came in the kitchen and said in the little child's voice that could be heard for miles "Ha, Ha, my legs don't hurt anymore because Grandpa put salve on them". Story goes that mom stopped what she was doing at the time and went for walk.
Grandpa was a very religious man and taught my brother Dale and myself the Lord's Prayer and the Ten Commandments. He served on a number of boards for the church.
He was also a volunteer fireman and was caught in a forest fire with two other men. All three laid down in a stream with a water soaked blanket covering them and the fire passed over the top of them without harm.

He loved to trout fish and also could dowse for water using a cherry tree branch. He would hold the Y shaped branch in his two hands with the stick pointing up and walk the land, when water was found the stick would point down. I never knew him to be wrong.
He tried to use the "gift " to locate gold or silver, but it never worked, however he was able to dowse over a map and penpoint a downed airplane. Although the passengers didn't survive , it was grandpa's ability to locate the plane which allowed their families to bring them home for proper burial. "He said it was God's way of letting him know that he needed to use it to help others and not for personal gain."
He loved listening to boxing on the radio, when he finally had a tv he would watch it and listen to the radio as well , he never wanted to miss a thing.
When Dale was about twelve Grandpa let him drive the old truck on the ranch and Dale got excited and hit the gas instead of the brake running into an old shed and fence. Dad was very upset and Grandpa just said "Odell leave the boy alone I wanted that shed down anyway" ,that was our Grandpa .
Our grandma died when I was ten, after that I didn't get to spend much time with grandpa, however when I married he came to California for the wedding and stayed with my mom and dad. He had cancer by that time and was quite ill, but later on when he found out I was expecting his first great grandchild he said he would live to see him, and he did. Our son John was about five months old when we lost grandpa in 1962. There is still a great sadness in my heart at his loss.

Floyd and Virgia's granddaughter Doris Rhodes related a sweet story to me, she said that Virgia and her sister Flora were walking along and met up with two young men, Floyd Craig and James Sumner, Floyd said to James , I'll take the short one and you take the tall one of the ladies, Virgia being short and Flora being tall, now what is funny about this is Floyd was tall and took the short lady, James was short and took the much taller then him lady,Flora, all married later on and lived rich full lives with their families.
