Death of Mrs. Luke O'Dell

Mrs. Luke O'Dell died at the home of David Justice in this city, Friday, March 12, of blocked bowels. The end came at 1 o'clock p.m. The funeral took place from the Richland Baptist church near Hitt, Saturday afternoon at 2:30, being conducted by Dr. J. A. Grow. After which the remains were interred in the Richland cemetery.

The maiden name of deceased was Rebeccah Redifer. She was born in Bath county, Virginia in 1846. She came with her parents to Missouri when only four years old. In 1867 she married in Illinois to Luke Odell. To this union were born nine children. Of these, two have died, and the following survive their mother: Robert L., Arthur, Oliver, Miss Iva and Mrs. Jacob Gordy, all of this county, and John O'Dell of Louisa county, Iowa and Henry O'Dell of Hubbard county, Minnesota. These were all present at the funeral.
The husband also survives, together with twenty-seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
The deceased united with the Baptist church at the age of fourteen, and has lived a devoted Christian life since that time. Mrs. Odell has lived for a long time in this county and her splendid character is attested by those who knew her best. Her large family of children are all honorable and useful citizens. The bereft ones have the sincere sympathy of all good people.

Rebecca was twin of her brother Robert Porterfield Redifer.
