Wilburn Fletcher Seymour

Wilburn Fletcher Seymour, son of Hannah and Jarrett Seymour, was born May 4, 1860, near Waverly, Morgan County, Illinois. He lived in that community for 20 years when he came to Edgar, Nebraska.

On September 4, 1883, he was united in marriage to Miss Sophia Johnson at Clay Center, Nebraska.

Two daughters were born to this union, Mrs. Lillie Marshall of Edgar, Nebraska, and Mrs. Eva Johnston of Santa Ana, California.

Mr. Seymour passed away Saturday morning, July 5, 1947, at his home, having reached the age of 87 years, two months and one day.

He leaves his widow; two daughters, Mrs. Marshall and Mrs. Johnston; six grandchildren, Vilas S. Marshall of Rush City, Minnesota; Mrs. Grace Springer of Bellflower California; Mrs. Lillian Ojeda of Santa Ana, California; Grant McClellan of New York City, New York; Mrs. Truma Turner of Memphis, Tennessee; and Joan Johnston of Santa Ana, California; three great-grandsons and two great- granddaughters; also three half-sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Spires and Miss Julia Seymour of Murrayville, Illinois, and Mrs. Minnie Johnson of St, Louis, Missouri; three half-brothers, Leonard and Les*e Seymour of Jacksonville, Illinois and Tom Seymour of Rush City, Minnesota; and a number of nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Mr. Seymour was one of the few pioneers left in Edgar. He came to Edgar in 1880 and lived here until 1908 when he with his family moved to Rush City, Minnesota, where they lived for 16 years when they returned to Edgar where he resided until his death.

Mr. Seymour was a farmer and later followed the carpenter trade in and near Edgar, until he retired.

He was baptized while a child in the Methodist Church in Illinois.

Funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian Church in Edgar, Tuesday, July 8 1947, with Rev. John W. Kile of Ogallala, Nebraska, in charge.

Rev. Kile used as his text the 23rd Psalm.

Harold McGhie sang as a solo, "Beyond the Sunset." A trio, J. M. McGhie, C. B. Smith Jr. and Harold McGhie sang "Just Abide." Mrs. C. B. Smith Jr. accompanied the singers on the organ.

Pallbearers were: B. G. Rydholm, E. F. Hart, L. A. Grossman, W. J. Goesch, C. G. Cottle and Frank Bishop.

Interment was made in the Edgar Cemetery.
