John LaBarre would "row across the lake with his chums on Saturday nights and go to the dance, they could hear the music across the water. John lived in New York, he had trouble with his lungs and his doctor eventually advised him to go to the "pine forests of Northern Michigan" to live where the air would be healthier. John and Mary were married February 15, 1870 in Oneida, Haldimand County, Ontario, Canada.

John married first Margaret E.L.Wooding, November 20, 1867 in Halton County, Ontario, Canada.
Their children were, Elizabeth LeBarre,1868, and William Morten Castleman LeBarre. William was born June 24, 1869 and died Aug 12, 1912.
Margaret Wooding LeBarre died August 10, 1869 in Ontario, Canada.
The Castleman name came from John's maternal grandmother Margaret Castleman, the name changed from Cassleman to Castleman in the late 1800's. William was raised by his grandparents, Hiram and Julia LeBarre, he lived with them after his mother died and in 1869 and is found still living with them in 1881.

John and Mary's first two children, Frederick and my great grandmother Julia Arvilla were born on the Miles Hotchkiss Farm, Seneca Township, Haldimand County, Ontario, Canada.
Aunt Maggie ( Margaret ) their third and last child was born in Isabella County, Michigan.
