Richard W. "Dick" Giffin, 91, died at 1:45 p.m. June 12, 2011, at Baton Rouge Senior Health Service Community.

He was born Aug. 19, 1919, in Van Wert to William and Nellie Wallace Giffin, who preceded him in death. On Jan. 3, 1947, he married C. Lucille Lowman, who died Dec. 29, 1993.

Mr. Giffin had been owner and operator of United Auto Supply and retired as the automotive manger from Kmart after several years. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in France. He was a member of the greatest generation. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He was a 1938 graduate of Shawnee High School. He had been a member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 54 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1275.

Survivors include two sons, Richard R. Giffin, of Sunbury, and Randolph K. (Ann Marie) Giffin, of Madison, Wis.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert P., William D. and James H. Giffin; and four sisters, Doris Bassett, Bernice Nungester, Imogene McMillen and Arbelle Giffin.

Graveside services will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites by VFW Post 1275. The Rev. Bill Giffin will officiate.
