Prince Joachim of Prussia was the youngest son of Kaiser Wilhelm II and his wife Auguste Viktoria of Schleswig-Holstein.
He married Princess Marie-Auguste of Anhalt in 1916 and fathered a son, Prince Karl Franz.
His marriage ended in divorce, and after his father's abdication, the prince found his reduced status difficult to accept. As a result, he is reported to have suffered from deep depression.
Joachim died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in Potsdam.
His son grew to adulthood, married and had five children.
