Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He served as a Private in Company H, 12th Iowa Infantry. During the attack on Confederates at Nashville, Tennessee, December 16, 1864, he captured the flag of the 1st Louisiana Artillery Battery. For courage in the face of the enemy, he was awarded the Medal of Honor.
