Peacefully on April 30, 1986 at the Lakeshore General Hospital, Olive Mary Porteous, aged 83 years, of Ashern, Man, Prayers will be said on Fri, May 2 at 7:00 pm in the Holy Cross Catholic Church, Ashern, Man. Requiem Mass will be sung on Sat, May 3 at 2:00 pm in the church with Fr.Don Pruner officiating. Interment in the churchyard cemetery. Olive was bom in Winnipeg in 1903 & lived there until coming to Ashern with her parents in 1917. She started working in the first Post Office in Ashern in 1919 where she worked until 1921, at which time she left to start work as Deputy Clerk in the Municipal Office, a position she held until 1951 when she was appointed Secretary-Treasurer & remained there until retiring in 1971. She enjoyed baseball & curling and was active in all community affairs and was also an active member of Holy Cross Parish in Ashern. Olive was predeceased by her parents, 6 brothers & 2 sisters. She will be sadly missed by her many nieces, nephews & friends. Honorary pallbearers will be Herman Plohman, Joe Schwartz Harry Kawaleski, Norman Markwart, Bill Kerntoph & J.S.Johnson. Active pallbearers will be 6 nephews, Paul Olson, Ken Resch, Darrell Porteous, Ryan Porteous, Garry Porteous & Alan McMillan. If friends so desire donations may be made to the Lakeshore Hospital Guild In care of Sharon Lutz, Ashern, Man. or to the Holy Cross Cemetery Care Fund. Arnason Funeral Home of Ashern in care of arrangements.
