Thomas Erdmann, age 68, of Monroe, died on November 15th, 2011 at his home. Tom is survived by his wife Joanne; his son John Erdmann and his wife Joanie; his daughter Michelle Collis and her husband Steve; his seven grandchildren Richard, Patrick, Andrew, Brigid, and Maggie Erdmann; Kimberly and Lindsay Collis; and his sister in-law Harriet Erdmann. He was pre-deceased by his parents, two sisters, and brother. Tom was a veteran of the United States Navy serving on a submarine during the Vietnam War. He spent his career as a test engineer in the aerospace industry and served on a team with NASA to launch the Hubble Space Telescope. Tom served his community in various capacities including: volunteering his time as president of the Monroe Jaycees and as a Connecticut Jaycees statesman; an emergency medical technician; and soccer and little league coach. Tom served his family and his community with a spirit of unwavering love and self-sacrifice. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family matching wits in a game of cards or just enjoying a good conversation while sharing a cold beer. He will be dearly missed by all that knew him.
Funeral services will take place on Saturday, November 19th at 10 a.m. at Saint Jude Parish, which is located at 707 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Moose Hill Road Monroe. Friends may call on Friday evening November 18th from 4-8 p.m. at the Spadaccino and Leo P. Gallagher & Son Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate any contributions in Tom's memory to go to his favorite charity, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation located at 200 Connecticut Avenue, 5-H, Norwalk, CT 06854.
