Catherine Roberta Kriegel, age 91, of Brooklyn, died Saturday, April 28, 2012 at Grandview Heights Nursing Home in Marshalltown. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 2, 2012, St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Brooklyn, Iowa with Fr. Brian Shepley officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Brooklyn. Visitation: 4 to 7 P.M. Tuesday, May 1, 2012, Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn, with a Scripture Service at 7 P.M.
Roberta is survived by thirteen children, Francis Kriegel (Marilyn) of Victor, Joanne Phillips (Gary) of Marshalltown, Jane Glasford (Mike) of Crooks, SD, Raphael Kriegel (Diane) of Montezuma, Thomas Kriegel of Brooklyn, Theresa Goeke (Tom) of Marshalltown, Elizabeth Cretin (Charles) of Eldora, Vincent Kriegel of Crooks, SD, Margaret Carlton (Darrell Beason) of Brooklyn, Dave Kriegel (Chelle) of Laurel, IA, Dorothy Allen (Nathan) of Winterset, Ted Kriegel (Tammy) of Brooklyn and Agnes Crabtree (James) of Brooklyn; 33 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are four brothers, Joseph Pfiffner (Vera) of Waterloo, Herbert Pfiffner (Jean) of Dunkerton, Cletus Pfiffner (Evelyn) of Oelwein and Vincent Pfiffner of Raymond, and a sister Mary Agnes Barnes (Gene) of Vinton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William John Kriegel in 1996, two grandsons Lloyd and Walter Kriegel, a great-granddaughter, Ashley Phillips, a brother Francis Pfiffner, and five sisters-in-law, Ann, Marian, Carol, Joanne and Helen Pfiffner.
Catherine Roberta Pfiffner was born August 29, 1920 in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond and Johanna Geib Pfiffner. She received her education in the Blackhawk County schools, graduating from 8th grade in 1934. She married William John Kriegel on November 28, 1945 at Barclay Catholic Church, rural Dunkerton, Iowa. Roberta was a mother and a homemaker. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing and quilting. She also enjoyed baking. Roberta was very fond of all the little babies in the family over the years. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Society, Circle Club, and the Women's Catholic Foresters. She was very active in 4-H in earlier years.
