In the early 19th century, James Eneu (or Enue), a member of Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Church, owned a tract of land below Christian Street along the Passyunk Road. In 1809, Eneu conveyed a lot of land for the establishment of the Mount Zion Christian Church and its burial ground and shortly thereafter, established a private burying ground for his family; whether its establishment was due to Eneu, a layman at Saint Mary's, disputing with Bishop Henry Conwell, or whether it was because some members of his family marrying outside the Church, is not clear. However, the burial ground existed through at least 1851, when James Eneu died.
