Longtime Portland dentist Dr. Ralph Waldo Maris, 82, of 2925 NE 55th Ave., died Sunday in a local nursing home after a long illness. A Portland resident since childhood, he was born Feb. 6, 1888, in Newberg.

Dr. Maris was a member of local, state and national dental groups, and the Multnomah Athletic Club, Columbia Lodge No. 114 of AF&AM, Scottish Rite Masons, the American Legion and Al Kader Shrine Temple.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; one brother, Paul, Laguna Hills, Calif.; and four nieces and one nephew.

Memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Vernon Presbyterian Church. Committal will be private.
