Carlin A. Austin, a retired farmer of Waverly, died Saturday, June 11, at 11:30 a.m., at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fred Ashbaugh, in this city, following an illness of several years duration.
Mr. Austin was born in Scottville, July 16, 1860, the son of the late Rev. John and Agnes Seymour Austin, being 88 years, 11 months and 11 days of age at the time of his death.
He was married to Ada B. Newton, on March 22, 1882, at Grandview, Ill. To this union were born five children: Mary C. Satterlee of Irving, Edgar N. Austin of Peoria, Elsie M. Ashbaugh of Wavrly, Charles H. Austin of Peoria, and William Ray, who died in infancy. His wife died December 24, 1937, and he was also preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters.
Besides his four children, he is survived by six grandchildren and three great grandchildren, also one brother, Charles F. Austin, of Joliet, who is 94 years of age.
At an early age Mr. Austin was converted and united with the Methodist church, of which he was a faithful member until illness prevented him from attending.
