Raymond J. Schmitz formerly of Hilbert, died Wednesday Nov. 24, 1993 at Chilton Village Nursing Home, Chilton, after a lengthy illness.
He was born May 19, 1908 in the town of Rantoul, the son of the late Peter and Elizabeth (Rach) Schmitz.
Ray attended Hilbert Schools. He had served in the U. S. Army during World War II.
He was employed by the Soo Line Railroad. He later farmed in the town of Rantoul and had operated Schmitz’s Amusement in Hilbert along with his brother, Elmer Schmitz Sr. for 50 years, retiring in 1978.
Ray was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Hilbert, and a member of it’s Men’s Club. He was a member of the Hilbert Senior Citizens and the Cupsch-Brockmann American Legion Post 127 of Hilbert.
Survivors include a sister, Anita Breit, Kaukauna; a sister-in-law, Doris Schmitz, Hilbert; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, Sedonia; a sister, Erla Kleist; and two brothers, Allen and Elmer Sr.
Services were held at St. Mary Catholic Church, Hilbert, with the Rev. Rallen Stencil as officiant. Burial was in the parish cemetery.
