Johanna Bender, 82, died Monday, May 13, 1996, at her home after a brief illness.

She was born in Schuck, Russia, and came to the United States and Akron in 1952.

She was employed by City Bakery for over 17 years. She was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and was formerly a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church for over 30 years. She was a charter member of the German Family Society.

Mrs. Bender was preceded in death by her husband, Peter, and son, Viktor, and is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Waldemar Bender of Akron and Colonel (U.S.A.F. Retired) Eduard and Harriet Bender of Austin, Texas; daughters and sons-in-law, Johanna and Hans Kramer of Green, Irma and Robert Herceg of Jackson Township, Eugenia and James Long of Cincinnati; sister, Pulcheria Kress of Carrollton, Ga.

Grandchildren, Ingrid (Robert) Fields, Erich Bender, Heidi (Steven) Edwards, Kirsten (Greg) Madden, Heather (Gregory) Lennartz, Brian (Mary Beth) Maite, Milan Herceg, Laurel Herceg, and Neil Herceg; great-grandchildren, Jack Edwards, Payce and Amaya Madden, Robert & Theo Fields, and Alexander Lennartz.

Funeral services will be held today, 10:30 a.m., at Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz Funeral Home, and at 11 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends today, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., at the funeral home. Donations may be made to St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. Kucko-Anthony-Kertesz, 724-1281.
