Mr. Peterson retired from Rockwell International in March 1983 and was a crane operator when he retired. He also had worked eight years for 7-Up in Topeka. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He was born Feb. 11, 1921, at Netawaka, the son of John and Laura Woods Petersen. He had lived in the Horton area most of his life.
Mr. Petersen was a member of the Whiting Baptist Church.
He was married to Flora Zabel on May 3, 1947, in Holton. She survives. A son, Danny Petersen, was killed in action in Vietnam and was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.
Other survivors in include two daughters, three sons, a sister, 12 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Services were held at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton.
