Native American Artist. Lakota Sioux artist Susan Mary Deloria used the name Mary Sully in her role as an artist. She was the sister of famous anthropologist Ella Deloria, aunt of author Vine Deloria, Jr., and great-granddaughter of artist Thomas Sully. It has only been in the 21st century that the significance and quality of her art has been widely recognized. Sully's reputation is built on the foundation of designs drawn from both Plains and Southwest Native American art combined with the Bauhaus and Art Nouveau styles. Most of her work is panel painting done with colored pencils. Her art has been displayed at the Minneapolis Institute of Art and elsewhere.
