Tindal, Yvonne, ‘Mrs. T' (07/25/2010)
Yvonne "Mrs. T" Tindal, age 81, of Winona, died Thursday, July 22, 2010, at the Sterling House, Winona.

Yvonne was born on September 4, 1928, and grew up in Winona and surrounding area. Her mother, Ruth Hansen and three brothers (Virgil, Harold, and Art) precede her in death; her sister, Charlotte Bremer, is living in Waumandee, Wisconsin. On November 15, 1948, she married Severt Einer Tindal and remained married to him for 49 years until his death in 1998. Together, they raised a family of four children.

Thomas David, who married Michele Gilbert, had two children, Crosby and Maret; Tom died of cancer in 1992, but his wife and children live in the Prior Lake area.

Janet Ruth married Patrick Duffy and now lives in the Cochrane-Fountain City area. They had three children. Ann Marie, died soon after birth; Bryan lives in the area and Sarah lives in eastern Wisconsin.

Gerald Arthur married Linda Heyer; they moved to Eugene, OR, and have two children: Karsten who lives in Los Angeles during the school year and Sevrina who lives in Phoenix.

Mary Lee was the youngest daughter; she had a daughter, Andrea Lynn, who is married to Chris Schafer. They live in Tacoma, WA, and are the parents of Reegan Lee. Mary died of cancer in January 2000.

When they were first married and while growing a family, they moved with Severt's job as the manager at Gamble Robinson to several cities throughout Minnesota – Albert Lea, Rochester, Fergus Falls, and finally settled in Winona. For many years, Yvonne and Severt owned and operated the Snack Shop on the corner of Third and Main, home of the famous ‘round table' where a group of local businessmen gathered over coffee to discuss the day's latest topics. Later, Yvonne and Severt ran Mr. T's, a restaurant in the West Gate Mall.

After being in the restaurant business for nearly 20 years, Yvonne worked in human resources at the Community Memorial Hospital (now Winona Health). After retirement, she began working at Watkins Home, where she started the human resource department there and continued to work for six years.

Throughout her life, Yvonne has been very involved with a number of groups and organizations. She and Severt were members of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart and Central Lutheran Church. Her volunteer work was extensive: Winona Area Hospice, Sauer Memorial Home, St. Anne Hospice, and Lake Winona Manor. She was a Girl Scout leader for 12 years; a member of the Sons of Norway; on the board of directors for the Development Achievement Center; active in the organization Women in Business; a member of a sewing group, and regularly gave blood during annual drives.

The family is so thankful for all the staff at the Sterling House where Yvonne lived since December 2009: Becky, Sharon, Steph, Sara, Amy, Nicole, Abby, Megan, Linda, Maxine, Sheila, Cari, Becky, and Bernie. Her last months there were so full of care and thoughtfulness. They took her in as family and made her feel welcome and loved with greetings in the morning when they arrived and good byes at the end of their shifts. Along with Dr. Retzinger and his office staff as well as all the hospice folks (Sherry, Lucy, Tom, Jean, Kathy, Susan, Sheila, Becky, Amanda, and Chaplain Tom), mom was kept comfortable until the very end where she passed in restful love with family. And finally, to all the friends of the family who stopped by her room to say hello, to say ‘she hired me' and to remember her for her time with all of us, thank you.

Visitation will be 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday, July 26, at the Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home, Winona, and at the church on Tuesday, beginning at 9:30 AM. There will be parish prayers at 7:30 PM at the funeral home on Monday.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 AM on Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at Cathedral of Sacred Heart, Winona. Pallbearers will be Andrea Tindal, Bryan Duffy, Sarah Duffy, Sevrina Tindal, Karsten Tindal, Crosby Tindal, Maret Tindal, and James Gabrick.

She has finally re-joined her husband, who is buried at Woodlawn Cemetery in Winona where she will be entombed. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be given to the American Cancer Society, Winona Area Hospice, or Sterling House of Winona.
