Norbert was born on January 30, 1942 in Bowdle, SD to Edward and Eleanor Gerber. He grew up on a farm near Hoven, SD where he attended school. He was united in marriage to Geri Goetz at Onaka, SD on July 21, 1962. They lived in Hoven until 1971 when they moved to Onida where he was currently living. He worked as a mechanic from 1960 until 1964, Partsman / Shop Foreman from 1964 until 1973 and as a Car Salesman from 1973 until 2006. Norbert was the first employee of Chase Ford in 1971 and continued to be employed by Chase Ford/Lamb Motor Co. for the next 35 years. When he wasn't working Norbert enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and kids. He enjoyed building and fixing things, anything from carpentry to automobiles. He also enjoyed cooking, gardening and canning the things he grew in his garden. He especially enjoyed NASCAR racing. He never missed a race. Norbert is survived by his best friend and the love of his life his wife Geri Gerber of Onida; one son Gaylon (Cindy) Gerber of Pierre; two daughters Carrie (Zay) Norman of Hayes and Kelly (Emmet) Warkenthien of Brandon, SD; six grandchildren, Shantel, Shelby, Hailey, Connor, Jaxon and Spencer; two brothers Dale (Deb) Gerber of Willernie, MN and Cliff Gerber of Hoven, SD and one sister Renee (Tom) Byrne of Alexandria, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Eleanor; two brothers Arthur in infancy and Jim Gerber.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Onida with Father Mark Axtmann officiating, Burial will take place at Onida Cemetery.
