Musician. A native of Opelousas, Louisiana, Chenier was the "King of Zydeco." Known for his one gold tooth, accordion, and outfits of a cape, and crown, he blended music including New Orleans rhythm and blues, Texas blues, and big band jazz, helping to bring life to the styles of Zydeco, Cajun, and Creole music. He was known for such recordings as, "Ay Tet Fille (Hey, Little Girl)," "Ay Yi Yi (Why Did You Go Last Night)", and "Wee Tee Ta Rebe." Chenier died from the effects of diabetes and kidney problems at the age of 62.
