Clara CAMPBELL was the daughter of John CAMPBELL and Sarah MITCHELL. She was the fourth of six siblings: two brothers and four sisters.
Clara's father was a successful farmer, but he died when she was ten, leaving Clara's mother and teenage brothers to run the farm.
Clara remained on the farm with her mother and was among the last of her siblings to marry. She married a farmer, George William Brown, on 29 Oct 1893 when she was 32 and he was 36. It was the first marriage for both of them. The couple had four daughters:
