Author, Poet. Born Aziz Jahan in Badayun, British India (present-day India), she is regarded as the "First Lady of Urdu Poetry" and the first major Pakistani female published poet. At age 12 she started writing poetry under the pen name of Ada Badayuni. Following her marriage to Nurul Hasan Jafarey on January 29, 1947, she took her pen name Ada Jafarey. In 1950 she published her first collection of poems, "Maiṉ Sāz Ḍhūṉḍtī Rahī" and later she published five collections of Urdu poetry ("S̲h̲ahr-i Dard", "G̲h̲azālāṉ, Tum to Wāqif Ho"', "Ḥarf-i S̲h̲anāsāʾī'" "Safar Bāqī'", and "Mausam, Mausam"). In 1955, the Hamdard Foundation, New Delhi recognized her as the "Outstanding Female Poet of the Century". During her life, she received awards from Pakistan Writers' Guild, the Government of Pakistan and literary societies of North America and Europe in recognition of her efforts. She died at the age of 90.
