Actress. Born Zofia Danuta Szaflarska in Kosarzyska near Piwniczna Zdrój, Poland, during World War II she participated in Warsaw Uprising as a liaison. In 1946 she appeared in "Zakazane piosenki", the legendary Polish first post-war film. Throughout her 1939- 2016 film and stage career she had performed in over 80 plays and more than 100 movies including "Skarb (1948)", "Pożegnanie z Marią (1991)", "Diabły, Diabły (1991)" and "Pora umierać (2007). In 2008 she was awarded the Złota Kaczka for the best Polish actress of the century. She was also awarded the Order of Polonia Restituta, Commander's Cross and Commander's Cross with Star, one of Poland's highest Orders and Gold Medal of Gloria Artis. Danuta Szaflarska had been married twice and she had two daughters. She was a regular player of Teatr Rozmaitości in Warsaw, specializing in modern and progressive drama, and in her, later years appeared in four different plays at the theatre. In 2016 she decided to retire as her her health had been deteriorating. Danuta Szaflarska passed away in 2017 at the age of 102.
