Violeta de Belaúnde was a Peruvian politician, women's rights activist, and the first lady of Peru. She was born on January 7, 1936, in Lima, Peru, and passed away on June 23, 2009, also in Lima.

Belaúnde was the wife of Fernando Belaúnde Terry, who served as President of Peru for two non-consecutive terms. During her husband's first term in office from 1963 to 1968, she served as the first lady of Peru.

Throughout her life, Belaúnde was dedicated to promoting social and political causes, particularly in the areas of women's rights and democracy. She was a member of the Peruvian Congress from 1990 to 1992 and again from 2000 to 2001. During her time in office, she worked tirelessly to advance women's rights and promote gender equality. She was also a member of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights from 1994 to 1997.

Belaúnde was recognized for her contributions to Peruvian society with numerous awards and honors, including the National Order of Merit for Distinguished Services in the rank of Grand Cross, awarded by the Peruvian government in 2004. She is remembered as a trailblazer and advocate for human rights and equality in Peru.
