Freda Lorene Bernhardt was born April 21, 1901 to Henry and Anna (Utesch) Bernhardt in Midway, Iowa. She received her education at Danbury, Iowa and later at Trimont [Minnesota]. Freda was confirmed on May 17, 1917 along with her sister, Erna, and brother, Emil, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Trimont by Pastor Neunaber. Freda was united in marriage to Vernon "Barney" Love on February 16, 1921 at the home of her parents on the south edge of Trimont. After their marriage they farmed in Minnesota until 1926 when they moved to Chicago Heights, Illinois. Freda was employed at the Rau store in Chicago Heights and Bennett Industries in Peatone, Illinois. After retirement they moved back to Trimont. She and her husband became residents of the Trimont Nursing Home in October of 1990.
They were members of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chicago Heights, Illinois and Trinity Lutheran Church in Trimont.
Freda is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Leorpha and Wilbur Zum Mallen of Crete, Illinois, and Darlene and Robert Opie of Beecher, Illinois; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson; one brother and his wife, Emil and Ellen Bernhardt of rural Trimont; sisters Erna Nordstrom of rural Trimont, Lily Hubers of Fairmont, Esther Dwight of Windom [Minnesota], Mrs. Francis (Allen) Hughes of Grants Pass, Oregon, Mrs. Arnold (Adell) Sandersfeld of Mankato [Minnesota], and Mrs. Keith (Nelda) Berry of Minneapolis; and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
Freda was preceded in death by her parents; husband Vernon on March 29, 1991; an infant son, Roland; three brothers and one sister.
