Cleone Madeline Fokken, of Milaca, formerly of Ogilvie, passed away on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at the Elim Home in Milaca. She was 96 years old.
Cleone was born on March 15, 1920 in Montevideo, Minnesota to parents John Ludvige and Anna Josephine (Kleppe) Heim. Born the second oldest of seven children, she attended District 11 country school in Ogilvie for a year before the family moved to Lignite, North Dakota, where she finished her schooling. As a young girl of only 14, she worked as a cook in the threshing fields of North Dakota. On December 20, 1940, Cleone was united in marriage to Allen A. Fokken on the Fokken Farm south of Ogilvie. They were blessed with four children.
When Cleone and Allen were first married they lived on a farm East of Ogilvie. They then moved to a farm on the South edge of Ogilvie until moving into town in 1984. They lived there until moving to an apartment in Mora in 1999. In September of 2001, Allen passed away. Cleone spent 3 years at the Caley House in Princeton, before moving to the Elim Home in Milaca in 2004 where she spent her final years.
Cleone had many interests that kept her busy over the years. She was an accomplished seamstress and made numerous bridesmaids dresses and clothes for her children and grandchildren. She adored shoes and passed that passion on to her daughter and granddaughters. She liked to stop at garage sales, never knowing what treasure she might find. She was a wonderful cook and baker, remembered for her special Divinity recipe. She loved music and played the guitar as part of her family’s band in her younger years. Family was the center of Cleone’s life and she hosted countless family reunions and holiday gatherings, often entertaining more than 60 relatives at these events. Through the years, Cleone kept a strong faith and was an active member of the Ogilvie United Methodist Church. She was a Sunday school teacher for many beloved children over the years and served on the ladies aide committee. She will be deeply missed.
Cleone is preceded in death by her parents, husband Allen, grandson Steven Sohlstrom, siblings, Marion, Julian, Roy, and Doris.
She is survived by her children, Ken of Princeton; Judy (Larry) Sohlstrom of Dalbo; Del (Maxine) Of Dalbo; and Dean (Pam) of Braham; 8 grandchildren, Lynn Engnell, Anthony Fokken, Vicky (David) Warren, Sandy (Craig) Quale, Katie Fokken (Kyle Hagel), Tom (Christopher) Fokken, Matt (Tara) Colby, Scott (Lisa) Colby, and Trinett Sohlstrom; 11 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren; brothers Gordy (Helen) Heim of Mora and Lyle (Julie) Heim of Little Rock, AK; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
