Poet. He is considered as one of the most important figures of modern Chinese poetry. He loosened Chinese poetry from its traditional forms and reshaped it under the influences of Western poetry. In 1915, he graduated from Hangzhou High School and proceeded to attend Peiyang University in 1916. In 1918, he traveled to the United States to study in Clark University. In 1921, he went on to study in England at King's College. His best known poem is "On Leaving Cambridge", which was written in 1928. He died of a plane crash on his way to attend a lecture in Peking.
