JOPLIN, MISSOURI: Edgar Lee McWethy Sr., age 82, passed away at 5:08 am, Friday, November 16, 2007 at Freeman East Hospital, Joplin, MO.
Edgar was born January 18, 1925 at Commerce, OK to Edgar and Opal (Mills) McWethy.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Army. He retired after working several years at Vickers Inc, Joplin, MO. He was a member of the American Legion.
He was married to Martha Jane Murray on March 13, 1943 at Kansas City MO. She survives.
Additional survivors include one son, Kenneth McWethy and wife, Mary, Joplin, MO; one daughter, Christy Case and husband, Jim, Baxter Springs, KS; five grandchildren, Billy Jo Prater and Amber Parker, of Miami, OK, Greg Case, Bruce McWethy and Russell McWethy, of Baxter Springs, two step-grandchildren, Shelly Foulk, Joplin, MO and Larry Tappana Jr, Carl Junction MO; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Norma Jean McWethy, Cherry Hill, NJ.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his eldest son, Edgar Lee McWethy Jr.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm, Monday, November 19, 2007 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS. Pastor William Fields will officiate. Burial will be in Pence Cemetery, rural Baxter Springs, KS. Military graveside rites will be conducted.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 – 4:00 pm, Sunday November 18 at the funeral home.
