Martha was born Feb. 12, 1925 to Ira and Anna (Ewers) Murray. She was a housewife. She was married to Edgar L. McWethy on March 13, 1943 at Kansas City, MO, who proceeded her in death on November 16, 2007.
She received a special citation as Mother of the Year in 1972. The honor was given to mothers of Congressional Medal of Honor recipients.
Survivors include one son, Kenneth McWethy and wife, Mary, Joplin; one daughter, Christy Case and husband, Jim, Baxter Springs, KS; five grandchildren, Billi Jo Prater and Amber Parker, Miami, OK, Greg Case, Bruce McWethy and Russell McWethy, Baxter Springs, KS; two step-grandchildren, Shelly Foulk, Joplin, and Larry Tappana Jr., Carl Junction, MO; 8 great-grandchildren; one brother, Clyde (Peck) Murray, Quapaw, OK.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her eldest son, Edgar Lee McWethy Jr; one brother, James Murray, and two sisters, Lillie Brittle and Ruby Miller.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 pm, Friday, November 30, 2007 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS. Pastor William Fields will officiate. Burial will be in Pence Cemetery, Baxter Springs, KS.
