Actor. He was an award-winning Estonian actor. Born to a Russian father and an Estonian mother, he began his career at age fourteen as the lead character Ilmar in the 1969 Aleksandr Kurochkin-directed Russian language Soviet children's adventure film "Passenger from the "Equator." After graduating from high school, he began to study acting at Tallinn Conservatory, graduating in 1976. He began an engagement as a stage actor at the Estonian Drama Theatre in Tallinn in 1976 that lasted until his death. Besides the stage, he appeared in radio, film, and television productions. He was awarded with the Meritorious Artist of the Estonian SSR in 1984, Ants Lauter Prize in 1985, and the Best Actor of the Year in 1991 and 1993.
