Royal Whiton was born July 28, 1846, in Hingham, Mass., son of Royal Whiton, Sr. and Rebecca Allen (Lothrop) Whiton (1820–1889). Mr. Whiton was a descendant in the eighth generation of James Whiton (or Whiting), who was in Hingham as early as 1647. (Source: Representative Women of New England, 1904)
