George Fayette Washington (c1811-71) married (1) in 1842 in Putnam County, WVa., Frances A. Garten (c1823-), and (2) c1858, Mrs. Mary L. [McGraw] Hayes (1828-85). Their sons were Zachariah (c1846-65), Samuel T. (1861-81), and Robert Franklin Washington (1864-1932).


George Fayette Washington's father was Samuel Washington (1770/1-1831) who moved eventually to Kanawha County, [W]Va. He was a justice in Harrison County, [W]Va. He married c1795, a first cousin, Dorothea Thornton (1778-1813), of "Fall Hill," near Fredericksburg, Va. Five children were Mildred Ann (1797-99), Samuel Thompson (1806-69) who married in 1829, Wilhelmina Judith Hudson (1811-55); Augusta Clifford (c1809-25); and twins George Fayette (c1811-71) and Francis A. Washington (c1811-72).
