Horace and Julie shared many interests, many having to do with the outdoors. They were long-time members of Mil Ojos and Somos Siete, where Horace was an avid hunter and fellow club members enjoyed the delicious gourmet meals for which Julie was so well known. Julie was selected as the WBCA poster artist in 1991 and 1994. Julie was also instrumental in the creation and sustenance of the Laredo Art League and Laredo Center for the Arts. Among Julie's most powerful legacies is the beautiful art she so prolifically produced. Well-recognized throughout the Southwest United States as well as Mexico. Julie's massive canvases of brilliant acrylic and oil are a tribute to her love of the Texas borderland, Mexico and the Texas coast. Julie's style is best-characterized by the bold and colorful portrayal of the unique regional beauty seen through her keen artist's eye. Julie's artistic accolades are too numerous to list, but include: Artist of the year 1992 Hill Country Art Foundation, Corpus Christi Art Center Best of Exhibit 1983, 1986, 1987, 1992; Laredo Art League 1st place 1986, 1987; Finalist, Art Magazine National Juried Landscape Competition; McAllen Tip of Texas Best of Show. Highly sought after, Julie's larger than life paintings grace many commercial establishments as well as the homes of many art lovers. A Julie S. Watson painting was hands down the favorite gift of each of her nieces and nephew upon their marriages.
