Dr. David Sikora

Dr. David Sikora, beloved physician, dad, brother, Unc, and friend, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2008, in Dallas.

Services were held Monday, Feb. 18, 2008 at 2 p.m.at Congregation Shearith Israel, 9401 Douglas Avenue at Walnut Hill Lane in Dallas. Burial followed at Shearith Israel North Cemetary at Hillcrest Memorial Park on Northwest Highway.

He was born on March 12, 1924 to the late Samuel and Pola Sikora in San Antonio. He married the late Ann Loeb Sikora in 1965, having met her on a blind date. They had two sons, Daniel "Danny" Sikora and the late Sam Loeb Sikora.

Besides his son Daniel, he is survived by his sister, Zelda Sikora Siegel, nephew Mark Jordan Siegel and wife Linda, nephew Lawrence "Larry" Eliot Siegel and wife Karen, great-nephews-and-nieces Jack Oberstein of Austin, Samantha Siegel, Jacqueline Siegel, Jenna Sanders, Jason Siegel and Jordan Siegel, and his dog, Mr. Sniffles.

He was additionally predeceased by his-brother-in-law Jack H. Siegel, niece Gayle Siegel Oberstein and his in-laws Irving A. Loeb and Fannie Levy Loeb of Sweetwater.

Other closest family includes devoted sister-and-brother-in-law, Betty Loeb and Frank Bouchett of Burlington, Vermont; cousins, Dr. Peter and Gail Loeb, David "Sonny" Sikora and wife Sue, Albert and Natalie Sikora of Birmingham, Ala.; cousins, Drs. Guillermo and Jane Bock Guzman and Robert and Rebecca Siegel; and numerous other devoted family members in Texas, New Mexico, California, Iowa, Illinois, Vermont, Connecticut New York, Massachusetts, Florida, Mexico, Brazil, England, France and Israel.

He was a graduate of Brackenridge High School in San Antonio, the University of Texas at Austin where he was a member of Tau Delta Phi fraternity, and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School at Dallas. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the 99th Infantry Division in Europe. He was a consulting chemist, sold real estate, built homes, and was head chemist for Kraft Food Company in Garland before attending medical school. After completing his medical internship at St. Paul Hospital, he went into private practice as a family practice physician and aviation medical examiner in Farmers Branch in 1958, which he continued until 2005.

After his so-called retirement he continued to see some private patients, continued working for other physicians and also volunteered at free clinics Metrocrest and at North Dallas Shared Ministries until a few weeks prior to the time of his death.

Among other organizations, he was an active member of Congregation Shearith Israel, a volunteer for Jewish Family Service, and Dallas County Health and Human Services' Medical Reserve Corps. He was a member of The Dallas County Medical Society, Texas Medical Association and the Southern Medical Association.
