Professional Baseball Player. He played in the Negro Leagues during the 1910s and 1920s. He was an exponent of the earlier leagues before the founding of the first Negro National League. He was born as Calvin Alexander to Calvin Alexander Sr. and his wife Ethel Kinnard Alexander in Washington County, Texas, on August 4, 1895. He worked as a porter in a restaurant in Austin, Texas, before pursuing a professional baseball career. He played the position of pitcher with the San Antonio Black Bronchos making his professional baseball debut with them in 1918. The pitcher who batted right and threw right also played with the Houston Black Buffaloes in 1920, the Detroit Stars from 1923 to 1925, the Indianapolis ABCs in 1925, and the Cleveland Elites in 1926. His 162 Game Average consisted of 6 Wins, 18 Losses, .244 Win Percentage, 44 Games, 24 Games Started, 0 Games Finished, 6 Complete Games, 0 Shutouts, 2 Saves, 201.0 Innings Pitched, 165 Runs, 135 Earned Runs, 245 Hits, 15 Homeruns, 84 Walks, 78 Strikeouts, 1 Wild Pitch, 0 Balks7 Batters Hit By Pitch, 917 Batters Faced, 6.04 Earned Run Average or ERA, and 82 Adjusted Earned Run Average or ERA. He passed away following a battle with progressive muscular dystrophy in Austin, Texas, on April 27, 1931, at the age of 35. Following his death, he was buried in Bethany Cemetery in Austin, Texas. He never married nor had any children.
