Josef Hüttenberger (known in the U.S. as Joseph Huttenberger) was born in Kucura, Hungary, the son of Karl Hüttenberger and Rosina Will (Protestant Reformed Church records). He was married on 17 March 1881 in Kucura, Hungary to Margaretha Hoffmann (aka Margaret Huttenberger in the U.S.), daughter of Ludwig Hoffmann and Maria Mannweiler. Joseph emigrated to Sharon, Pennsylvania where he had relatives in 1903; Margaret emigrated in 1904. (F.F. Huettenberger, 2004)

They eventually settled in Atlanta, Georgia, where Joseph worked as a horticulturalist and a janitor. They had no children.

Joe and his wife Margaret lived at an apartment house at 61 Forrest Avenue on 16 January 1920; and at 238 East 5th Street in 1930 (censuses). In both cases he was listed as working as a janitor for an apartment house.

Joseph died at the age of 79 years on 28 October 1940 in Atlanta, Fulton Co., Georgia (death cert. no. 25280; Index of Georgia Deaths, 1919-1998, Ancestry.com). He was buried 29 October 1940 at East View Cemetery (Block 36, Lot 4, Grave 3) in a wooden coffin (no vault). His grave remains unmarked.
