He attended Stanford University, where he played collegiate baseball and was a member of the US Baseball Team, which won a bronze medal at the 1990 Goodwill Games. Signed by the Minnesota Twins as the 3rd overall pick during the June 1991 Amateur Baseball Draft, he made his Major League debut on May 17th, 1993. He experienced a world championship with the Boston Red Sox in 2004. In 630 career regular-season games, he compiled 362 hits with a .242 lifetime batting average.
