Mrs. Susewind before her marriage was Miss Julia Sommerfeld. She was born in Germany June 23, 1843, and at her death was aged 74 years, 7 months, and 25 days. She came to the United States in 1872, living for a few months in Iowa, and coming from there to Brunswick, where all the remaining years of her life were spent. She was married in Brunswick May 23, 1872 to Mr. Henry Susewind, who preceded her in death February 11, 1907. To this union four children were born, three of whom, William A. and Charles Susewind, and Mrs. W. A. Blunk, all of this place, survive, one daughter, Miss Annie passed away in 1901. Besides her two sons and daughter, Mrs. Susewind leaves seven grandchildren, a nephew, Emil Sommerfeld of near Indian Grove, and a host of relatives and friends to mourn her loss.
Mrs. Susewind was a life long member of the Lutheran church, and lived the life of the true and faithful Christian. Her name was a household word of deeds and helpfulness to those about her, and those in trouble or sorrow always found in her a sympathetic and loyal friend.
Funeral services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. F. G. Walther, at 12:30 O'clock Wednesday at the Lutheran church, where a large number of sorrowing neighbors and friends were present to pay their tribute of respect. Burial was in Elliott Grove Cemetery.
