SANDY SPRINGS -- Harry McEnerny III, died Saturday, September 19, 2009, following a valiant fight with cancer.
Born Jan. 25, 1939, "Mac" was a native son of New Orleans and a proud alumnus of De La Salle High School and Tulane University.
Mr. McEnerny worked his entire career at the intersection of banking, technology and systems engineering, retiring in 1997 from SunTrust Bank. Devoted to his community of Sandy Springs, Ga., he relished his role as political husband to Karen Meinzen McEnerny, City of Sandy Springs Councilwoman, District 6. Mr. McEnerny also served on the Board of Directors of the Cherokee Park Civic Association, Trees Sandy Springs, and as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Southeast Energy Assistance.
Mr. McEnerny served with distinction in the U.S. Army and National Guard. His diverse interests ranged from opera to classic automobiles to NASCAR. In recent years, Mr. McEnerny proudly showed his vintage Datsun 280Z, which won numerous national awards.
Truly, his was a life well lived.
He was preceded in death by his beloved first wife, Janet Stell McEnerny.
He is survived by his second wife, Karen Meinzen McEnerny; children, Kathleen Ann McEnerny, Harry McEnerny IV and his wife, Monica Rueckert McEnerny, Allison Dow McEnerny Volz and her husband, Thomas John Volz Jr., Margaret Keating McEnerny and her fiancée, Todd Kamin; and grandchildren, Andrew Gabriel McEnerny, Karen Maldonado, Harry McEnerny, V, James Lee McEnerny, Andrew Thomas Volz.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 22, 2009, at 10 o'clock at Patterson's Arlington Chapel.
Interment will follow at Arlington Memorial Park.
