Martin Kolb was the son of Peter Kolb, Rev. War., buried Meriwether County, GA., and brother of Peter Valentine Kolb who owned Kolb's Farm in Marietta where the "Battle of Kolb's Farm" took place.

Martin moved to Campbell County in the late 1820's from Newton, where he was state representative, 1824-28, and represented his new county at a state improvements convention in 1831. A large slave owner, he owned 51 in 1850. He died in Atlanta.

Married in November 25, 1821 to Susan Ann Butts
