2nd Baron Braye,
of Eaton Bray in the County of Bedford

Son of Sir Edmund Braye, 1st Baron Braye, and Jane Halliwell. Paternal grandson of John Braye of Eaton Bray, Bedfordshire. Maternal grandson of Sir Richard Halliwell and Jane Norbury.

John succeeded to his father's title in 1539, and was married to Lady Anne Talbot, a daughter of the 5th Earl of Shrewsbury.

He fought in the French expedition in 1546 and died from wounds received at the Battle of St. Quintin in 1556, after being imprisoned for a year.

Lord Braye left no children, and on his death the title fell into abeyance between his six sisters. It remained in abeyance for 282 years until it was terminated in 1839 in favor of Sarah Otway-Cave, who became the 3rd Baroness.

The 3rd holder of the title was a descendant of John Braye's sister Elizabeth, wife of Sir Ralph Verney.

His widow remarried to Thomas Wharton, 1st Baron Wharton, in 1561. She died without issue in 1584.
