WINTHROP: Douglas A. Ploof, Sr., 84, died on July 15, 1981 at his residence, after a prolonged illness.

He was born in Dickinson Center on April 8, 1897, the son of Andrew and Lucy (Jessmer) Ploof. He attended local schools and served in the Navy in World War I.

He married Bessie Patraw of Massena on Dec. 24, 1919. He was a millwright at Alcoa for 42 years until retirement in 1962. He was a member of the Alcoa 25-Year Club, local VFW, and American Legion of Massena.

He is survived by his wife Bessie; two sons, Douglas A. Jr. of Brasher Falls, and Gary R. of Ilion; three daughters, Mrs. Alfred (Pauline) Kinney of Massena, Mrs. Parker (Theodora) Rose of Winthrop, and Mrs. Bruce (Bette) Williams of Winthrop; one brother, Benjamin of Massena; one sister, Mrs. Condon (Rachel) Niles of Nicholville, 21 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Burial was made in the Winthrop Cemetery.
