Anchorage resident Wolfgang Kircher, 66, died of Lou Gehrig's disease Dec. 4, 1997, at his home. A visitation was held at Witzleben's Bragaw Chapel. A service was at the chapel with the Rev. William Burke of Providence Alaska Medical Center officiating. A gathering of family and friends was held at the family's home following the service.

Mr. Kircher was born Jan. 14, 1931, in Heilbrunn, Germany, and had attended high school and college in Landau, Germany. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 21 years with the rank of chief master sergeant. He had served from 1950 to 1971. Mr. Kircher was stationed at Elmendorf from 1963 to 1971. He was noncommissioned officer in charge of the 602nd Forward Supply Section. Upon his retirement from the Air Force, he went into partnership with Electronics Associates in Anchorage, from which he retired in 1994. According to his family, ''Wolf was a loving husband and father, full of vitality and creativity. He had a passion for life and enjoyed many hobbies including gourmet cooking, photography, gardening, fishing, camping, music and ballroom dancing, and skiing. Wolf was result-oriented and determined to live life to its fullest. After being diagnosed with a cruel debilitating disease, he continued with a dream to build a recreational cabin. This dream was accomplished with the help of many devoted and loyal friends and family. Wolf enjoyed being challenged with new hobbies all the time and would actively absorb himself into them until reaching a level of mastery.''

Mr. Kircher is survived by his wife of 46 years, Inge Kircher; daughters, Irma Ellis of Pensacola, Fla., and Patricia Woods of Wasilla; sons, W. Peter of Denver, Colo., and Richard Kircher of Anchorage; and 10 grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of Anchorage, 3305 Arctic Boulevard #105, Anchorage 99503 or to Providence Home Health Care, P.O. Box 196604, Anchorage 99519-6604. Arrangements were by Witzleben Family Funeral Homes & Crematory.
