RALEIGH - Naomi Blizzard Johnson of Raleigh, formerly of Kinston, passed away on the morning of Thursday, July 26, 2012. Born in Lenoir County on September 27, 1921, she was a loving mother and a wonderful cook. Naomi was close to her large family throughout her life and shared her wonderful sense of humor with them. She was preceded in death by her husband of many years, Clarence Edward Johnson of Kinston; her youngest daughter, Peggy Johnson Iacocca of Miami Beach, Fla.; parents Lonnie Denny Blizzard and Lela Catherine Smith Blizzard of Deep Run; sister Mary Blizzard; infant sisters, Retha and Gracie Mae of the home; and brothers, Herman of Wilmington and Raeford of Kinston. She is survived by five siblings, Rachel B. Jones and Norman Blizzard and wife Pat, all of Kinston, James B. Blizzard and wife Lolas, of Deep Run, Wilda B. Stroud and husband Dallas, and Dr. Lonnie H. Blizzard and wife Betty, all of Kinston. She was the mother of three living daughters, Betty J. Vaughn of Raleigh, Helen J. Brumbaugh and husband Clay, of Wilmington, and Linda J. Hill and husband Bruce E., of Swansboro. Her grandchildren are John C. Clark of Fayette, Ark., Richard LaMotte of Jacksonville, Barbara H. Williams of Kinston, and Joanna Meredith of Raleigh. Her three great-grandchildren are Kevin and Ashley Meredith of Raleigh and Margot Williams of Kinston. She has numerous nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 29, 2012, at Queen Street United Methodist Church to be immediately followed by a family visitation in the church Fellowship Hall. A private family interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make any donations to her church of many years, Queen Street United Methodist Church, 500 North Queen Street, Kinston, NC 28501, or to the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, 170 Manning Drive, Chapel Hill, NC 27514. Howard-Carter Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
