James Burton "J.B." Blizzard, 92, of Deep Run, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, September 8, 2021. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lolas Corbett Blizzard; son, Nelson Ray Blizzard; infant daughter, Sharon Leigh Blizzard; parents, Lonnie D. Blizzard and Lela Smith Blizzard; brothers, Herman, Raeford and Norman, and sisters, Mary, Naomi, Rachel, Retha, and Gracie Mae.

J.B. was a man who had a heart of giving, and serving others. He served at the pleasure of his family, friends, community, church, and his country. J.B. was enlisted in the U.S. Army, and then he pursued a career of farming, where he successfully co-owned B&B Farm supplies. Everywhere he went, J.B. told jokes and made others laugh. He had a passion for gardening, tractors, and making homemade wine. His gardening brought his family and community close. People often said that his garden was big enough to feed all of Deep Run. He and his wife looked forward to sharing meals, canned items, and the abundance of their crop with the community. Sunday meals were special to the family, where a feast of vegetables were served, sometimes accompanied by his homemade wine, jokes, and laughter. J.B.'s sweet wine boasted local grapes and unbelievable taste with word traveling quickly of its excellent taste, and people came from the coast to the mountains to savor. J.B. volunteered at Smith's New Home FWB Church, for Sunday School, Layman's League, and meals. J.B. embodied the parable of the talents in Matthew 25. He was blessed with many God-given talents, and he multiplied them to bless others. J.B. valued his time with his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. His legacy of serving, giving, and love will live on through all he encountered, and he will be surely missed.

He is survived by his daughter, Becky Blizzard Gray (Jeff); daughter-in-law, Lynn Teachey Blizzard; grandchildren, Heather Blizzard Abrams (Stewart), Aaron Blake Blizzard (Kelcie), Erika Nicole Lee (Marc), Amanda Brooke Gray, and Jessica Ann Gray; great-grandchildren, Finlee Raye Blizzard and Mary Madison Abrams; brother, Lonnie Hardy Blizzard (Betty); sister, Wilda Blizzard Stroud, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family would like to thank North Carolina Veteran's Home in Kinston and Pruitt Health Hospice for their care and concern.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 10, 2021, at Pinelawn Memorial Park with Pastor Luis Miranda and Duane Howard officiating. Visitation will follow at the gravesite. All other times the family will receive friends at the home.
