Paul (Dufe) E. Friend , 92, of Westerville, Ohio, formerly of Amherst, Ohio, and Pinehurst, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015.

Paul was born in Lafayette, Ind., and grew up in Dayton and the surrounding Lafayette, area, son of the late Robert Tyndall Friend and Anna Bartmess Friend . He was also preceded in death by son-in-law, Lanny Emery; and siblings, Charlotte Stewart, Mary O'Mara, Lloyd Friend , Josephine Christena, Ray Friend , and Robert Tyndall Jr.

Paul graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University in 1944. While there, Paul was captain of the Purdue men's basketball team. Following college Paul proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He began his career as an engineer with Bendix Westinghouse and retired as marketing director. Upon retirement, Paul and his wife, Jean, settled in Pinehurst. He was an active member and elder with Community Presbyterian Church.

Paul was an avid Purdue and Big Ten sports fan. He enjoyed golfing, loved music, played the trombone, and had traveled the world. Most of all, Paul was a family man who enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

He will be greatly missed by his beloved wife of 65 years, Jean K. Friend ; daughters, Leslie Emery, Judy ( Paul ) Loper, and Karen (Mark) Roberts; grandchildren, Megan Treleaven, Michael (Victoria) Treleaven, Paul Loper Jr., Stephen (Jessie) Roberts, Daniel Loper, Jeffrey Roberts, Kelly Roberts, Christopher Roberts, and Ted Loper; great grandson Lucas Treleaven; brother, Robert (Pat) Friend ; and many other extended family members and dear friends.

Family services will be held at a later date.
