Mabel Louise Bybee Jarka, 87, died at 9:30 AM Thursday, March 10, 2005, in Lafayette Home Hospital. Born April 6, 1917, in Metcalfe County, KY, she formerly lived at Clarks Hill, where she graduated from school. Her marriage was to Robert Andrew Jarka on May 4, 1939, in Lafayette; he died Feb. 9, 1998.

Mrs. Jarka, who had lived in Lafayette for 60 years, was a grocery checker for Eisner Foods for 23 years, retiring in 1976. She also worked for J.C. Penney in Lafayette for several years. She was a member of Congress Street United Methodist Church in Lafayette and Gamma Lambda sorority.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by four sisters and one brother.
