GLENS FALLS - Richard W. Whiting, 70, passed away Thursday Dec. 11, 2008, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born Nov. 12, 1938, in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Fred & Florence (Corlew) Whiting.

He enjoyed his Pomeranian dog, Sarah, and D.I.R.T. modified auto racing at Fonda Raceway since childhood. His favorite driver was No. 4, the late Lou Lazzario.

He and his father owned and operated untouchables rubbish removal business for many years. He worked until he retired from Native Textiles in maintenances. He enjoyed driving around the area in his Ford F-150 pickup, visiting friends and family. Richard was a very faithful Ford F-150 pickup owner.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by brothers and sisters, Doris Ballard, Ray Whiting, Agnes Baker, Betty Cook, Joyce Smith, Mary Meyers and Carol Whiting.

Survivors include his soulmate and companion Shirley Baker of Glens Falls; two children: Kevin M. Whiting of Glens Falls and Lorrie Whiting of Hudson Falls. A granddaughter, Leslie Barnes of Queensbury; four brothers: Ed Whiting of Queensbury, Don Whiting Of Ossian, Ind., Al Whiting of Glens Falls, Fred Whiting of Gansevoort; two sisters: Della Palmer of Queensbury and Eleanor Ellis of Hudson Falls; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, Saturday, Dec. 13 at Regan & Denny Funeral Home 53 Quaker Road, Queensbury. Burial will follow at Glens Falls Cemetery.

Calling hours were held on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to Mark Wadleigh and Scott Ellis and the staff at High Peaks Hospice of Glens Falls.

Pallbearers will be Scott Ellis, Scott Baldwin, Terry Cook, Bob Cook, Mike Smith and Bill Curl.
