Samuel L. Bradford was the son of William "Billy" Bradford and Betsy Wilson born and raised in the Little Creek area of Yancey Co., NC. His parents are also buried at this cemetery. Sam was the owner of a general store which sat on the corner of Little Creek and Bradford Roads in Little Creek Twp (Lewisburg). Sam died 4 years later from chronic complications of a stomach wound that never properly healed from a stray bullet of a shooting altercation between Carmen Cooper and Leroy Barnett Martin (see newspaper article) which occurred in his store in 1928. Carmen Cooper was killed during that altercation and is buried at the Hampton-Phillips Cem. Leroy Martin, a former Deputy Sheriff of Yancey Co., NC was acquitted and afterwards moved to Rutherford Co., NC and resided there until his death on February 13, 1973 (died from gastrointestinal bleeding per his death record). Sam Bradford was Leroy Martin's uncle (Sam's wife Ruhamia was the sister to Martin's mother Mary Jane) and Carmen Cooper's grandfather, John Cooper, was Sam's half brother.
