She was born in Reading on Jan. 23, 1923, a daughter of the late Esther (Furman) and William A. Riegel.
She was the wife of Charles W. Hoffman of Reading. They were married for 66 years.
Irene was a 1940 graduate of Reading High School. She was a marksman for the University Rifle Club, Reading. She was a member of St. Mark's UCC, Reading, and a member of its quilting group.
She was employed as an LPN at Dr. Niebaum's office, Reading, for 10 years and worked at Berks Heim until her retirement in 1981.
Irene is survived by her daughter, Susan J., wife of Skeeter Folk, Mohnton; two sisters, Doris M. Krick, Sinking Spring; Joan L. Wertz, Ocala, Fla.; five grandchildren: Victoria Cass, Stepfanie Piniero, Max Folk, Hilary Stiehler, and Liza-beth Folk; and nine great-grandchildren.
Friends are invited to call Tuesday from noon to 1 p.m. at the John P. Feeney Funeral Home, Reading. A memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. Interment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Sinking Spring.
